Cell-phone safety news
New research refutes the link between cell-phone chatting and brain cancer, we hear from Christoffer Johansen, M.D. His reasearch team questioned more than 1,250 people about their cell-phone habits and found no relationship between brain tumor risk and the number of calls made or years of cell-phone use. "these findings offer proof that there's no reason to alter one's cell-phone usage," says Dr. Johansen.

Another good reason to turn in early
Getting just one extra hour of sleep can help reduce the risk of diabetes, we hear from Daniel Gottlieb, M.D. His recent study found that participants who slept only six hours each night were 1.7 times more likely to have the condition than those who got between seven and eight hours of sleep a night. "Insufficient sleep impairs the body's ability to process glucose efficiently, even in healthy people," Dr. Gottlieb explains.

HOUSE HOLD TIP:
speedy, no-fuss buttering

Instead of wasting a pat of butter, a wad of paper towels and precious minutes every time you grease a cake pan, rely on this pastry-chef trick; Store wrappers from used sticks of butter in a resealable plastic bag in the refrigerator. When needed, just removed one piece from the bag, coat the cake or cookie pan with the buttery side and toss!
